This blog has been set-up to allow my creative juices to flow. Unfortunately I will more than likely not modify this blog to a "horror" theme since it would take a lot of time. These stories are meant to be short stories that will make you take a second glance in the darkness, lock your closet doors, or leave the lights on before you sleep. These stories are meant to bring back that emotion that we all thought we had control over. Fear.
Title: Charlie.
Before I came to Seattle I was a farmer living on the countryside. My family's corn business was doing particularly well lately, so I decided on finally going to college. As I packed to get ready, thoughts of my son came to my mind. Our only child, Charlie, would always jump on my back and yell "CARRY ME DADDY!!" Today, he didn't do it. He was facing a corner of the room with his back towards me and he seemed to be lost within his thoughts, muttering something. I decided to stop packing and see what Charlie was doing. "Charlie? What are you doing?" "I don't know daddy..." This was strange since Charlie had never acted like this before, so I decided on picking him up. "Wheeeeee!!!" Charlie soared through the sky as I swung him about, landing him on my shoulders. "Now hold on tight Charlie, while daddy finishes packing." Charlie had a bright smile on his face as I continued to pack.
My last day with Charlie was amazing. We went out to the ranch and rode our horses. Marlnie, my white stallion with blue stripes along her side, always captivated me with he hazel eyes. My son always rode Kikenu, a grey pony that we adopted off of one of the neighbors. Kikenu was a proud pony, grey with black and brown spots along his body up towards his face with a white diamond-shaped patch of hair between his eyes. A couple hours of horse riding and we were tired. We slept together our last night as I cradled him much like the day we brought him back from the hospital.
The next morning was rough. I held Charlie and said on the brink of tears "Charlie, I love you. I will miss you so much but I will call you as much as I can. If you need anything, just let me know." Charlie, bawling his eyes out, said "I will miss you so much daddy!! I don't want you to go!! wahhh!!!" I turned to my parents and told them, "Thank you so much for taking care of Charlie. It will only be three months but I will try to come back as quickly as I can." My mom, the kindest person I knew, said, "We know son. We will do our best for Charlie. Have a safe trip." To avoid any more emotions from flowing, I turned and got into my car. "Daddy don't leave!!!" I looked in the side mirror and saw Charlie's face as I turned on the engine. That image had been burned into my mind since I had left.
Since I was leaving, I decided on leaving my parents in charge of taking care of Charlie. They did a great job raising me, so I figured another little one shouldn't be a problem. What I did is something I would regret for the rest of my life. My decision to leave Charlie with my parents was something I should have never done.
My time in Seattle was spent indoors and studying primarily. Learning subjects that I had forgotten 10 years ago was not a simple task, but somehow I had done it. My first semester was done and I rushed back home to see Charlie. As my taxi pulled to the front of the house, something felt strange. The house looked dirtier than before, and I couldn't believe that cobwebs were starting to form near the entrance to the house. As I came to the door, I noticed something. The door lock was broken and the door could be pushed open with a nudge. I entered with the creak of the floorboards as I moved through the hallway. Slowly I reached the kitchen when a rush of dust attacked me. The air was dense with dust and a strange odor. As I looked around the kitchen, everything seemed to look as I had left it, prompting me to go upstairs. "Everyone I am home!!" Tugging my suitcase up each step was tiring, and with the last tug I was finally at the top of the staircase. The air seemed to be denser and the strange odor was stronger as I walked through the hallway. I left my suitcase and headed for Charlie's room. Trying to surprise Charlie like I always had, I creeped up until I reached his door. I slowly opened his door but it wouldn't budge. Feeling frantic, I pushed against the door until I ran and rammed the door with my shoulder to open it. Flies flew as the door was opened, with maggots crawling all over the ground. I looked around the room and saw a pool of blood. In the pool was a body that was lying face down. As I turned it over, it resembled someone I knew. "..oh my God. Mom!!" Parts of my mom was missing. Her eyeballs were gone, parts of her arm had pieces bitten out, and her right leg looked as if it was ripped off. I looked around the room and didn't see anything misplaced. Nothing removed, and no visible struggle. I went to the closet to look for Charlie, thinking that he may have hid there. As I opened the closet, something fell out. A raw stench flowed as I opened the closet, only to find a decomposed body. This was a relatively large body, which meant it could have only been one person: my father. I threw up on the ground and was on my knees, the gravity of the whole situation had finally hit me. Before I could collect my thoughts, the door slammed shut. I looked up and saw it. Charlie was standing behind the door, smiling widely with dried blood crusted on his face and in his teeth, staring into my eyes. "Hi daddy." Charlie slowly walked towards me as I frantically tried to back away from him. I couldn't back up any further, looking back to see where else I could go I didn't realize it, Charlie was hovering over me. "We can finally be together, forever." Charlie smirked and pulled something out from his pocket. It was my mother's eyeballs. He put them into his mouth and began to chew them. He slowly came closer and closer as he grinned wider while chewing my mother's eyeballs. Near my ear Charlie whispered, "Now it's your turn."
